How it works

  1. 01

    Scan your shortlist

Run the two or three photos you were already torn between. Each gets its own score and metric breakdown.

  2. 02

    Compare the numbers

The differences are usually not subtle — angle, light and framing routinely swing a score by half a point.

  3. 03

    Lead with the winner

Put the highest scorer first and use the metric notes to shoot a better version of the rest.

Why your first photo carries the profile

On every dating app, the opening picture does almost all of the work. It is seen for a second or two, at thumbnail size, next to dozens of others — which is exactly the situation a measured comparison is good at.

Asking friends produces kind answers, not accurate ones. Scoring the same face across several photos removes the politeness and shows which frame presents you best.

What separates a high-scoring photo from a low one

Even, soft light does more than anything else — it lifts skin evenness and stops shadow from flattening the jaw. Outdoor shade and window light beat overhead ceiling light almost every time.

Camera height matters nearly as much. Shooting slightly above eye level and squaring your shoulders to the lens keeps facial thirds and fifths reading correctly; a low angle distorts both.

Distance is the quiet one. Standing a step or two further back and zooming in reduces the lens distortion that widens a nose and shortens a chin at arm's length.

The score is a filter, not a personality test

A photo score says how clearly a picture presents your face. It says nothing about whether the picture is interesting, or whether the hobby in the background will start a conversation.

Use it to cut the weakest options, then choose among the survivors on character. That combination beats either method alone.

Questions people ask

Is there a free face score test?

Yes. Your first scan is free and scores a photo 1–10 with all six metrics shown, so you can see why one picture beats another.

How is a face score calculated?

Symmetry, vertical thirds, horizontal fifths, jaw definition, eye spacing and skin evenness are measured from landmarks on your device and weighted into one score from 1.00 to 10.00.

Do you store my photo?

No. Dating photos stay on your device unless you choose to share a score card. Only anonymized measurements leave your phone.

What's a good score out of 10?

For a profile picture, the useful comparison is against your own other photos. A shot scoring 0.40 above your usual is the one worth leading with.

Is this the same as a hotness test or attractiveness test?

Same measurement, aimed at a practical job: choosing which picture goes first on your profile.

Does Hotness roast you?

No. There is no roast mode and no shaming copy anywhere in the app. Every result is written to be honest about where you stand and specific about what would move the number.

Will my score change if I scan again?

Not for the same photo — the measurement is geometry-first, so identical input returns an identical score. Across new photos the number moves only when your lighting, angle or presentation genuinely changes, which is what makes progress readable.

What does it cost?

Your first measured scan and its full breakdown are free, with no card. If you want to keep going, Premium is $4.99 a week or $69.99 a year, with 45 scans a month and no charge per extra scan.
