How to take a photo that scores consistently
Beauty · Measured · Elevated — same conditions, comparable numbers.
Your free face score is repeatable for a given photo: scan the same image twice and you get the same 1–10 result, privately, on your device. What is not repeatable is the photo itself. Light, angle and distance can swing a score by half a point, so a rescan under different conditions measures the room, not you.
Light does most of the damage
Overhead light drops shadow into the eye sockets and under the jaw, which reads as uneven skin and a softer jawline. Both metrics fall even though nothing about your face changed.
The fix is dull and effective: face a window during the day, or stand in open shade outdoors. Even, frontal, diffuse light is the single condition worth controlling if you control nothing else.
Angle changes the geometry the scan measures
Tilting your chin down compresses the lower third of the face; tilting up stretches it. Because vertical thirds are measured directly, either tilt shifts your proportion score without any real change.
Hold the camera at eye level, square your shoulders to the lens, and keep your head level rather than turned. A half-turn hides one side of the face and quietly distorts the symmetry reading.
Distance and lens distortion
At arm's length a phone lens exaggerates whatever is closest to it, usually the nose, while pushing the ears and jaw away. That alone can cost a couple of tenths.
Stand back a metre or two and use a timer or a prop, or ask someone to shoot it. If you must hold the phone, extend your arm fully and keep it at eye height.
Expression, grooming and the same-conditions rule
Keep a neutral expression with lips together and eyes open normally. A smile is lovely and also changes eye aperture and cheek position, so keep it out of the measurement shot and save it for the photos people actually see.
Then repeat the whole recipe next time: same window, same time of day, same distance, same expression. Consistent conditions are what turn a second scan into evidence rather than noise.
